Elthorne is running two exciting competitions in conjunction with the summer Whole School Read. Check out the details below! Closing date is the 25th of September.

Competition 1 - WRITING
“Remembered Voices” – creative writing competition.

Write a piece of fiction (up to 500 words) that explores one of the novel's core themes: brotherhood, injustice, the passage of time, or the human cost of war.

Entries can take any form — a short story, poem, a diary extract, a letter, or a monologue. Your writing can be any genre or setting (other than WW1). Remember – show, don’t tell, and focus on small, human moments over generic statements about war.

Competition 2 - CREATIVITY

"Trench art" object design — students design or make a small object (real or illustrated) that Tommo or Charlie might have kept in their pocket, with a short artist's statement explaining it.
Graphic novel page — adapt a single scene from the book into a sequential comic/graphic novel page (no full illustration skill needed, storyboard style matters.)

Judges from the Art and DT department will be looking for originality and creativity!

We can't wait to read your entries. #participate Image

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Leila, one of our outstanding students here at Elthorne Park, on her phenomenal achievement!

On 15th February – just one week after winning triple jump gold at the U17 Age Group Championships – 15-year-old Leila, the youngest athlete at the entire championships, delivered another breathtaking performance. She soared to a brilliant bronze medal and set a new British U17 Record with an incredible second-round jump of 12.95m!

Extending her personal best by 14cm in just a week, her jump is believed to be the second-best by an U18 athlete in Europe this year – an extraordinary accomplishment at any level.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is the composure she showed competing in her first major event in front of a large crowd, TV cameras, and older, more experienced athletes. Leila represented herself, her family, her coach, and our entire Elthorne Park community with confidence and determination.

This is truly a day to remember and a milestone moment in her sporting journey. We can’t wait to see what she achieves next as she prepares to compete on the international stage later this year.

Congratulations, Leila – your Elthorne Park family is so proud of you! Image
